Readers of Sight and Sound who look forward to each new issue may have noticed an interesting covermount attached to April’s issue: a sampler of Tinderstick’s forthcoming release, collecting their soundtracks to the French filmmaker Claire Denis’ ouevre. I’ve always made time for Denis’ films, particularly 35 Shots of Rum and last year’s White Material. Tindersticks’ music is a large part of that, a luxurious and sonically varied which fits Denis’ work hand in glove. I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anybody who needs to get that Friday song out of their damn skulls.
Tindersticks can be seen performing cuts from the collection on tour throughout the latter half of the year, as well as a performance and Q&A with Denis and the band at the BFI on April 27th. Claire Denis Film Scores 1996 – 2009 is out on the 25th.
